Creating a Drinks Calculator

Public Health England (PHE) had created a drinks checker app to help people become aware of how much alcohol they were drinking. They wanted an online calculator tool to drive people to download the app as part of the One You campaign.

Some rough designs had already been started inhouse but PHE needed help in developing these further.

There was very little material to support the work done to date, and no tangible user research to refer to.

My first activity was to undertake an expert review of the calculator tool in its current form and present my findings to the stakeholders at PHE.

To compensate for the lack of user research, I then recommended a short round of user testing on a small sample of target users.

The results of the user testing supported my initial findings and provided additional insight that I was able to take forward in the wireframes.

Creating a quick prototype from the wireframes, I then tested the calculator on a different set of end users before handing over to the UI and Dev teams to bring the drinks calculator to life.
